About the friendly Asparagus

Hello, I’m Kay!

I’ve just been diagnosed with Autism and I’m documenting my process of going through what I assume many adults who are late-diagnosed go through after they find out.

It’s a very strange time in my life.

The reason I’m writing my thoughts down is because I want to practice writing as a reflective tool more. The reason I’m doing it publicly is because I always have the urge to share things that are on my mind, but for the first time, no one is there to understand me in my immediate social environment.

I think there’s value in people sharing their personal experiences. I haven’t found any stories about late-diagnosed Autism that were relatable to me (except for short snippets in news articles here and there, and a handful of snack-sized posts and memes on social media), so that’s also a bit what I’m hoping to contribute to here.

What I’m not doing is providing information, expertise or advice. I might link to pages, articles, research or other sources that I like or find helpful for myself personally, and I do my best to provide reliable and accessible sources. But even so, it’s just my personal log about my personal experience, and it shouldn’t be interpreted as anything more than that, or expected to be anything more than that.
